6/6/2009 11:08:00 PM Letter: Know the laws of ATVs
Editor:
Since it's that time of year again when those of us living on the river are being visited by uninvited guests, on or in the vicinity of our property to ride their ATVs and other off road vehicles, I thought everyone should be reminded of the new rules that went into effect Jan. 1, of this year. The law says that OHVs must purchase a special decal that identifies them as off road "users."
As off-road users they are limited to travel on a road, trail or other area that has been designated and posted by BLM for motorized vehicle use. This does not include riverlands. Travel that damages natural resources and habitats such as those found on the river and its adjoining ecosystem is prohibited. The waterways in Arizona need to be protected and this is a tool for doing that. For more information refer to Camp Verde Bugle dated Jan. 2, 2009, Page 2, or read Senate Bill 1167 at www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/ohv_rules.shtml
