One thing about a motorcycle rally, if you didn't hear about it in advance you will know when it happens.

The roar of custom Harley Davidsons, intermingled with the more subtle purring of stock models and other makes will be heard this weekend as riders from throughout the state converge on Cliff Castle Casino of the eighth annual Thunder Valley Rally.

Every year, the casino donates the proceeds of the ride to an area non-profit. This year's benefactor, once again, will be the Save The Family Foundation of Arizona.

The 20-year-old foundation helps homeless families that are the victims of domestic violence, by providing family and legal counseling along with housing.

The two-day rally, running Saturday and Sunday Sept. 20-21, will also feature a concert on Saturday evening at Stargazer Pavilion by Foghat.

The band will take the stage at 8 p.m.. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the warm-up band will be Radio Dogma. Tickets for the concert are $25.

The "slow ride" poker run will make five stops including Camp Verde, Mund's Park, Mormon Lake, Clint's Well and home again to the casino. Cash prizes totally $10,000 will be awarded to the rider's with the highest and lowest poker hands.

There is no cost for the ride.

Each participant will also receive one free drawing entry for prizes and a bonus entry for each $5 donation made to Save the Family Foundation. The casino will match all donations up to $5,000.

Sunday's events include a bike show with cash prizes of $8,000 for 13 different categories, raffles and live entertainment from Shut up and Drive.

Riders not already registered can register Saturday morning at the casino from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. the public is invited to come join the festivities.

Last year, more than 1,300 riders raised over $24,000 for Save The Family.
