Restaurant has no drive-thru
Emergency crews believe that a woman touched the accelerator instead of her brake when entering a parking space at the Mai Thai Restaurant this week. The yellow Ford Explorer was launched over the parking barrier and into the landscaping planter. The vehicle did not puncture the building's wall.
The driver suffered a small laceration on the forehead, but refused further medical treatment. After resting in one of the restaurant chairs, she was released. But the vehicle was towed for repairs.
Fails to yield
Another collision occurred Tuesday in front of the Verde Valley Fire District station. A district engine was responding to an EMS call at 7:30 p.m. and one car was yielding and stopped in Arizona 260 for the engine as it entered the highway.
The driver of a second vehicle apparently did not realize the vehicle was stopped and rear-ended it. The engine stopped to help at the accident and a second unit was reassigned to the medical call. Chief Jerry Doerksen says one patient was taken for neck pain to hospital.
One lane was blocked for the collision for a short time.
Fire in the boys' room
The entire Camp Verde Elementary School was evacuated into Wednesday morning's rain as smoke poured from the boys' restroom.
School workers used extinguishers to douse the blaze before fire crews arrived, but firefighters overhauled the scene.
The investigation shows that a toilet paper roll was set on fire in the boys' room, and the fire spread to the edge of the stall partition, constructed of steel with plastic laminate. The ceiling was also damaged by smoke.
School officials estimate damage from the apparent prank at $5,000.
