Olde Tyme Country Fair set for Saturday in Cornville
Since 1981 at Oak Creek School

By Philip Wright
Staff Reporter

Oak Creek School will hold its annual Olde Tyme Country Fair Saturday at 11490 E. Purple Sage Drive in Cornville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual event started in 1981 and is an important fund-raiser for the school. Admission is free.

Entertainment will be provided all day, with something different on stage each half hour. The featured entertainment includes dancers, Flip City Gymnastics and a singer who performs country, folk and rock music.

Throughout the day an art and craft sale will include about 30 vendors. Kids will be invited to try their hand at making a turkey out of pinecones. Food will be available. Grasshopper Grill will have their pulled-pork sandwiches for sale. Hot dogs and soft drinks also will be available.

Other featured events will include a cake walk, petting zoo, horse and buggy rides, fire engine rides and a dunk tank with the school's principal and physical education teacher perched above the cold water.

A baked-goods sale will offer some great treats to take home. Popcorn and cotton candy also will be sold.

A donkey drop will replace last year's goat drop. Same game, though. A grid allows people to pick a number and bet on the square that gets the donkey's droppings. The winner splits cash 50/50 with the school.

Raffles will give everyone a chance to win some great prizes, including two breakfasts and a two-night stay at area resorts. Many other prizes, such as gas coupons and gift certificates from restaurants, will be included.

Carnival-style games will keep the kids busy and offer them a chance to win prizes. Tickets for the games are available at the gate. Other games, including tug-of-war, will be ongoing all day.
