Children nabbed after golf cart, truck stolen at Beaver Creek School

RIMROCK - Two children are charged with auto theft and criminal damage after an escapade in Rimrock on Veterans Day.

The suspects, age 11 and 12, are accused of stealing a golf cart and a pickup truck from the Beaver Creek School bus barn. Deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office also report they found other stolen items from their homes.

A burglary was reported to the Sheriff's Office when the absence of the vehicles was discovered at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 12, the day classes resumed. Also missing were several two-way radios and most of the keys of the school's other vehicles.

It did not take deputies long to find the golf cart and the 2008 Ford F-150 truck, and thanks to unique footprints and eye witnesses, the suspects themselves.

The golf cart was found on Bentley Drive along with skater-shoe footprints that matched those found at the bus barn. Deputies described the cart as "dirty and scratched." Students apparently found the pickup truck in a wash about a mile behind the school. It was stuck with the back end sitting on the frame, the right front tire blown out and many scratches and dents. Deputies also spied the shoeprints.

Several students at the school told deputies of the two suspects they claim were riding around the community in the golf cart the night before. Two female students, age 12 and 14, said the suspects had asked them to meet and see the stolen golf cart. The girls said there was a cell phone video of the suspects and others driving the cart. According to the Sheriff's Office report, they recovered that video at Rimrock Public High School.

Deputies say they obtained "documented admissions" from the suspects after meeting with them and their parents. Among the stolen items recovered was a two-way radio from Camp Verde Middle School, where the 11-year-old attends school. It is unknown where the 12-year-old attends school.

The two were charged with burglary, theft of means of transportation, theft and criminal damage. The two girls, who are sisters, have been charged with unlawful use of means of transportation after admitting they rode in the golf cart. An additional arrest is pending for a juvenile who allegedly stored some of the stolen property.

All were booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center. All are residents of Rimrock.

You need to clarify that the two-way readio was recovered at Camp Verde Middle School, not that it was stolen from the school.
