VERDE VILLAGE -- An officer patrolling near Old Hwy. 279 and Ogden Ranch Road spotted a brown Ford sedan parked behind a fence shortly after midnight. Given the late hour and the high number of incidents of drinking and using drugs in the area, the officer investigated the stopped vehicle.
Driver Chad Falstich said that he was checking his tire then decided to have a cigarette. He had two passengers, Nathan Ray Rhodes and David James Parker. All are 18 years old.
Another officer spotted a blue glass pipe next to the driver's armrest. A bag of leafy material, thought to be marijuana, was on the floor of the back seat. Another pipe with burned residue was found on the front seat. A passenger carried a small bottle of Visine and the trio had three plastic lighters.
According to the report, Rhodes said they all came out there to smoke some weed and that two other subjects ran when the officer pulled up. Falstich, Rhodes and Parker were charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
COTTONWOOD -- On Thursday night, just after 9 p.m. an officer in an unmarked police vehicle was in the area of the Cottonwood Dog Park on Riverfront Drive. Even though the dog park is closed at dusk, a car was by the fence with headlights on and the engine was running.
The 17-year-old driver said he was taking his dog to the park and didn't realize that the park was closed after hours. The officer reported the juvenile's eyes were red and glassy, pupils larger than normal and showed other signs of the use of marijuana.
He allegedly admitted he had smoked an hour earlier and reached into the center console and came back with a center console and came back with a baggy of marijuana and a glass pipe. The marijuana and pipe were seized and the teen and grey Jeep he was driving was turned over to his mother.
The teen was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
COTTONWOOD -- Cottonwood officers pulled over a white Honda Hatchback Thursday night with a loud exhaust at South Eighth Street and State Route 89A. The driver told the officer that he had marijuana in his vehicle and had smoked the day before. He handed a black bag to the officer. The driver, William Francis Weston, 18, was arrested based on a drug recognition evaluation.
Weston was charged with DUI drugs, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released.
COTTONWOOD-- A teenager was arrested Wednesday after his red Chevy Blazer was pulled over near Taco Bell in Cottonwood for speed 10 mph over the limit.
Sgt. Harper removed the driver from the SUV saying he was DUI/drugs and would take him to the station for tests. Beneath the center console, officers allegedly found marijuana shake and a bindle.
According to the police report, the drug evaluation showed the 17-year-old was under the influence of marijuana and was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, DUI and DUI/drugs and referred to juvenile probation and released to his mother.
