LAKE MONTEZUMA -- The Beaver Creek Golf Course has been purchased by Beaver Creek Redevelopment Company, a corporation formed Oct. 9.
The golf course went to auction Oct. 14 on the courthouse steps in Prescott. There were no bidders, but there were about 20 Beaver Creek area residents in attendance, according to resident Janet Aniol.
With no bids, the original owners agreed to sell to Beaver Creek Redevelopment (BCR).
BCR lists directors as James Spear - a CPA in the Village of Oak Creek - and the Wright Investment Trust in Tampa, Fla. Spear is a long-time local resident. BCR's authorized capital is 5 million shares of common stock, according to information filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
The trustee sale of the golf course, which was shuttered this summer, came after Verde Golf Ventures had struggles funding its operation. The property includes an 18-hole course and a restaurant in the middle of Lake Montezuma, an unincorporated community in Yavapai County.
Even before closing in August, the course's fairways and greens had been allowed to dry. The situation was exacerbated by a tree falling on the restaurant, causing damage that was never fully repaired.
Spear is scheduled to address the next Lake Montezuma Property Owners Association meeting, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m., at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.
