CAMP VERDE -- "I help save the world," says Todd Becker, "a little bit every day."
Becker, the Business Development manager at APS Energy Services, received the OK to get started on an energy-saving assessment of Camp Verde Unified School District. The investment-grade audit is expected to cost $1,800 (or 8 cents per square foot). If the district moves forward with APS Energy Services in retrofitting and upgrading, that amount would be wrapped into the total cost of the project.
"There will be no out-of-pocket expenses for you guys," Becker told the governing board during its Tuesday meeting.
He said as the retrofits are put in place, the energy savings can be applied to the debt service for the project. "The energy conservation measures that are quicker-paying-back items can help pay for others," Becker said.
APS Energy Services, a subsidiary of Pinnacle West, has done similar work for Sedona-Oak Creek Unified School District. That project included a solar photovoltaic installation at Big Park School.
Becker was quick to point out that his company is not part of APS and warned the board that APS will be raising rates more than 8 percent in January.
In other facilities news, the construction of the arsenic remediation project is in full swing, with work on the main piping this week. Support Services Director Stacey Barker said the schedule calls for generator installation at the end of October and final calibration by Nov. 2.
The district is also preparing bids for painting as part of the mold remediation at the high school and middle school. Barker said he chose one color of paint "for economical reasons" and the painting should be done during Christmas break.
