BEAVER CREEK - Septic systems are not the stuff of evening conversation -- unless of course a nonfunctioning system has driven you out of the house and forced to have dinner in your driveway.
For most of us we live our merry lives devoid of the system's underground goings on, and, perhaps, that's just as well.
But septic systems need a little love and attention, too, which will be the subject of a workshop being presented on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Beaver Creek Baptist church, 3705 E. Beaver Creek Road in Rimrock.
Sponsored by Yavapai County and the Arizona Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association, the information is designed to get you in tune with that privately held wastewater treatment plant in your back yard.
Reservations are required. A recent workshop in Prescott had such a huge response people were turned away. There will be room for 100, according to event organizer Karin Krippene.
The class will cover maintenance, how to extend the life of the system an dhow to protect your family's health and the health of your groundwater and your neighbor's groundwater.
Participants will also receive a septic system homeowner's manual, chock full of everything you ever wanted to know about septic systems, but were afraid to, or uninterested in, asking.
