RIMROCK - Of all the events the National Park Service does to attract Verde Valley residents to its three national monuments, its most popular is clearly those evenings when they turn out the lights.
This Sunday evening, Oct. 4, the Park Service will host another of its Moonlight Evenings at Montezuma Well.
Montezuma Well, located in Rimrock, will remain open until 9 p.m. to allow visitors the opportunity to experience what the ancient home to the Southern Sinagua would have looked like some 800 years ago, before its ancient ruins were abandoned.
Luminarias and lanterns will light the pathways as well as the doors and windows of the ruins. The effect is haunting, to say the least. To add to the ambiance, local flutist David Wolfsrobe will inject his Native American flute music into the scene.
Moonrise is at 6:10 p.m.
Montezuma Well is located four miles east of Interstate 17 off exit 293. Follow the signs. Bring a coat and a flashlight. Parking is limited, so carpool if possible
